When I was young all the girls who had long hair like me used to oil their hair with coconut oil.
It was a weekly ritual. Coconut oiled hair braided into 2 plaits all week for school and then washed out once a week on a Friday equalled gorgeous weekend hair!
Even back then our mothers used to espouse the benefits of coconut oil for hair growth and marks and scars – long before the western world and the internet cottoned on to natural and organic beauty.
Now I use coconut oil with my gua sha jade facial tool watching – (see previous blog: https://wordpress.com/post/pilatesandprosecco.blog/42) and its not just better skin I’m discovering but I’ve noticed my eyelashes and eyebrows are thicker. In fact the lady who shapes my eyebrows commented the other day “Gosh you’re eyelashes are lovely. I know some ladies who would kill for lashes like yours!” Really? Must be the coconut oil!
I think the quality of the oil does matter though. I use Biona Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. which I get on Amazon.
It’s a massive tub so the first thing I do is scoop half out in a clean jar for cooking. Fried eggs and stir fries in coconut oil are much healthier than vegetable, olive or sunflower oil. The saturated fat in coconut oil has actually been found to raise your good (HDL) cholesterol and lower triglycerides (fats in your blood that raise heart disease risk).

I also scoop some out into a small container and add brown sugar to this – to make a yummy lip scrub. Try this twice a week before you put on lippy- you’ll find you don’t even need lippy- I even got my hubby into this (okay just once)! Two pairs of luscious lips better than one, no?
